Fucibet (Fusidic Acid)
Fusidic Acid is a steroid antibiotic. Fusidic Acid is used to treat the infection caused by penicillin resistant staphylococci.It is also known as Sodium fusidate. It is of Semi Synthetic origin and belongs to Fusidane. It belongs to Proetin Synthesis Inhibitor.
Availability
Fucibet cream contains 2% fusidic acid in a cream base and available in tube of 15 g.
Fucibet-H cream contains 2% fusidic acid + hydrocortisone acetate in a cream base and available in tube of 15 g.
Indications
Fusidic acid is primarily indicated in conditions like impetigo, folliculitis, burns, sycosisbarbae, carbuncles, paronychia.Fusidic acid with combination of hydrocortisone is primarily indicated in dermatitis, infantile eczema, discoid eczema, infected wounds, contact dermatitis and seborrhoeic eczema.
Contraindications
Fusidic acid is contraindicated in conditions like hypersensitivity to any of the ingredients.
Adverse Effects
In patients with dermatosesmild irritation occur that did not usually require discontinuance of therapy. Theapplication of fusidic acid to deep leg ulcers has been associated with pain.
Dosage and Administration
A small amount of cream should be applied to the lesion 3 or 4 times daily until favorable results are achieved. Whenever the lesion is to be covered with a gauze dressing, less frequent applications (1 or 2 daily) may be used.
Warning / Precautions
Use of topical preparation near the eyes should be avoided because of potential conjunctival irritation. Long term topical therapy should beavoided particularly is infants & children.
The safety during pregnancy and lactation has not been established. If the administration of Fucibet to pregnant patients is considered to be necessary, its use requires that the potential benefits be weighed against the possible hazards to the foetus because drug can penetrate the placental barrier and is also detectable in the milk of nursing mothers.
Storage Conditions
Store in a well closed container between 15-25 °C.
